main project photo

A sympathetic restoration project reinvigorates a village community.

Synopsis

The 'Old School House' is the historic centrepiece of Killylea dating back to the 1920s and now serves the musical community of the village. The brief was to refurbish the internal spaces while extending the sensitive landmark structure. In addition, the roof structure was replaced, repointing and replacement of stonework, all of which were completed by expert craftspeople.

At the same time, pragmatically reconfigure the internal layout to facilitate meeting and music practice rooms, commercial-grade kitchen facilities, entrance foyer, and the main hall's complete refurbishment as a flexible space suitable for musical performances and other community activities.
